Better version

Thursday, February 10, 2000: The Western Wall is what remains of the wall built by Herod the Great to support the "mount" on which the Temple stood. Especially on Shabat (Friday sundown until Saturday sundown) Jews gather there to pray. This picture is quite distant because my mother took it from behind a barricade. The women go further to the right and pray in another section separated from the men by a fence. Our guide spoke mockingly of the idea that women distract men from prayer. However, my thought was "Well, d'uh!"

Just before this picture was taken, I had been approached by a young Chassidic Jew with a limp who wanted money for his leg operation. He gave me his "card" (hand-written on paper): "Shabsi Grunwald" and his address.
